Also if you want to remove the menus, just hit TAB twice. TheSheep, if you don't like the controls, Dfhack has plugins that improve the UI a great deal.

I cannot wait for the mod that finally removes all those annoying menus and buttons from Cities: Skylines or RimWorld so that I can enjoy the experience without all that clutter!

Just think about the resources wasted developing UIs for games like these in the past 40 years! If only we had known earlier. I think most developers (probably all of them except this one) still believe having a proper User Interface and making their game accessible without sacrificing anything is actually something important. Making your game more smooth and comfortable to play, or playable for some to begin with, adds nothing to your game.

Quoting: WorMzyAdding mouse-driven menus and buttons would just slow things down and add nothing to the game. Quoting: TheSHEEEP Quoting: WorMzyYeah, there's no need for all that.Aka "I'm fine with it, therefore it is perfect". Last edited by TheSHEEEP on 30 January 2020 at 8:44 am UTC You know, with buttons 'n stuff.īasically, it would have to become like a game that was released after 1980 ) Or, rather, there would have to be a UI to begin with, not just "beautified" ASCII. The entire UI would need to be overhauled in Dwarf Fortress for proper mouse support. That's more akin to mouse support in something like lazygit or certain things in SSH sessions. You still need to know pretty much all of the hotkeys to get anything done. You can do a few select things via mouse, but not nearly close to what you really want to do with the mouse. It's even enabled by default:Ĭhange this to NO if you don't want to have the mouse involved at all. It's had mouse support for over a decade. I won't even take another look at it while this isn't in - which likely means I'll never take another look at it, I know. I even succeeded (well, as much as you can succeed until everyone goes mad).īut what a chore to play without mouse support. While it doesn't state Linux support for this special version, you can read more on that here in our previous article where Bay 12 Games explained what's going on.įor now, find the classic Dwarf Fortress free on the official site. You can easily claim a new mount if something happens, pack animals (including many mounts) can also carry items and most important of all, you can "pet animals in adventure mode"-hooray!Īs a reminder, it's also eventually coming to itch.io and Steam with a bunch of enhancements. A lot of new options when starting including background, religion, starting site selection, equipment including quality, mounts/pets and more including the option to make party members. If you have a Sheriff, you will get reports on it and you will be able to interrogate people and perhaps get the name of their master eventually.ĭwarves also have more complex relationships, with the possibility of "multiple lovers" and they can get divorced or have children before they are married.įor the Adventure mode, there's all sorts new as well. Slightly more concerning though, is that villains might target you and steal some artifacts. For the fortress mode, you will now get petitions for guildhalls and temples when you have enough believers digging around. Yesterday, Bay 12 Games put out v0.47.01 with some pretty huge new features, plenty of which are spread out across the multiple game modes. It's been around a long time and it's so popular it's inspired the creation of other amazing games like RimWorld, Prison Architect, Minecraft and plenty more. Dwarf Fortress, a single-player fantasy game that's quite a complex mix of genres has a big new release now available.
